"StartTechnik" Graduate Program at Lufthansa Technik Budapest

2010-02-01

This year the StartTechnik program launched in Budapest as well, so talented young graduates can get the opportunity to start to build their careers within the framework of this training. At international level Lufthansa Technik has already been successfully run this program, where participants in an 18 months rotational basis can get to know each department of the company. Depending on the qualification  (economist or engineer) the participant spends 1-4 months in each department according to a personalized plan, so he/she gets the extraordinary opportunity of getting to know the company's entire operation by the end of the program. This goal is supported by the option of spending few months at a foreign subsidiary after the 18 months. The long-term objective of this program is to recruit and educate young graduates who will utilize their acquired knowledge at the most appropriate area - by mutual consent with the Executive Team.

In Budapest, as the result of a long selection process lasting for months, Noémi Gyarmati (engineer) and Réka Kaló (economist) received the offer to be the pioneers of this program. They tell us in some words their short story and their experiences gained at LTB in the past one or two months.
Réka took her state examination on her major of Management and Organization, specialized in Corporate Strategy and Corporate Valuation as subsidiary specialization at the Corvinus University of Budapest in this summer. Between September 2007 and August 2009 she worked as a trainee at a global management consulting firm, at the Boston Consulting Group. "It was a venture to apply for a program in MRO industry as an economist, but it also presented a challenge." Currently, within the framework of the first module she works at Project Management and familiarizes herself with the company’s core competence, the production process itself. The 3K program will accompany the entire StartTechnik program and she will work on 3K projects closely related to the certain departments as well, but given that the program StartTechnik first started in Budapest, high cooperation and continuous development is needed.

Noemi took a degree in mechanical engineering – specialized in aircraft structure and engine – at Aircraft Technical Institute of Bolyai János Military Technical Faculty of Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University in July 2009. She attended the four-year college as a correspondence student, and from May 2006 she worked at the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (Hangar) of MH 59th Szentgyörgyi Dezső Airbase in Kecskemét, as an A-type mechanic of JAS-39 Gripen.
“Though I liked my previous job – being an aircraft mechanic - I decided to change, because my work was not satisfying for myself, my career opportunities and the future at the defence forces were uncertain and limited. So I ‘took a look around’, and found the job advertisement of Lufthansa Technik. I was not hesitating to apply, because it is known as a stable company with good reputation, and I liked the program they offered. I was attracted by the chance to try myself in every field of the firm and by that I can learn my capabilities as well.”
Right now Noémi is at the Production, where her main task is to get familiar with the activities in the Hangars, what she fulfills with great pleasure.
